South Africa’s Banyana Banyana coach Vera Pauw says she’s happy with their preparations for the upcoming 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil later this year.  The coach was speaking to the media during their media Open Day at Nike Centre in Soweto on Wednesday after taking her charges through their paces.

Pauw also shared her hopes that she will manage to get one or two friendlies to assess the progress of the team.

“We are on track and everything is going well for us so fa. The camp has grown very fast and the level of play is growing everyday,” said Pauw.

“We’re just waiting on news regarding funding because we want to play games, there’s no funding for now.

“We want to play friendlies next and use the FIFA window, but that’s all based on the availability of the funds.

“If it goes ahead, we will play Cameroon and there’s one game professionally set in July, we’re looking at USA – we need at least four big games before the Olympics.

“We are hopeful that we’ll get the green light, maybe today or tomorrow.”

The coach also indicated that their opponents are preparing for the tournament and that is why they have reported for camp ahead of the August tournament.
