Ballon d’Or awards: Football’s greatest to be crowned tonight
Tonight, football fans all over the world will focus their attention on the Ballon d’Or award ceremony that will be held in Zurich.
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo will be up against Barcelona’s duo Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. for the most prestigious individual award in the football world.
Ronaldo and Messi have won the award an incredible 7 times between them in the past seven years.
The Barcelona prodigy has a record 4 Ballon d’Or trophies to show for his illustrious career in Spain.
Ronaldo on the other hand has three to his name, equal to Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten.
Messi is highly tipped to reclaim the title from the Portuguese, setting a new record of having won it five times. The Argentine guided his team to a remarkable five trophies; the Liga, Copa del Rey, Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
And, while Neymar Jr. is largely not fancied to beat the two to the trophy, he is seen as the likely new face to claim the trophy in coming years. Being 23 years, he is fancied to claim the trophy in the near future after the two ahead of him exit the stage, seeing as Messi is 28 years old and Ronaldo is 30 years.
The Brazilian has had a marvellous career at Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Tonight however, the football world will get to know the best talent in the past year.
