Bald people targeted in ritual killings in Mozambique
Mozambique police has warned of a possible targeted ritual attack on bald people following the brutal killing of two men whose body parts were used in witchcraft, reports AFP.
One of two bald men was found with his head chopped off and organs removed after the two were killed in Milange, in the centre of the southern African country, an area known for its persecution of albinos.
“Last month, the murders of two bald people led to the arrest of two suspects… their motivations come from superstition and culture: the local community thinks bald individuals are rich,” national police spokesman Inacio Dina told a news conference in the capital Maputo.
The two Mozambicans arrested for the act, both in their 20s, confessed that the organs were used by healers in rituals to promote the fortunes of their clients from Malawi and Tanzania.
The death of two bald men is unprecedented with usual victims for such witchcraft ritual attacks associated with albinos. More than 100 attacks against albinos have been registered in the country according to the UN.
