Backed by Chinese investors, Wolves seal promotion to English Premier League

English side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C have become the first Championship side to earn promotion to the Premier League following a 1-1 draw between Fulham and Brentford, meaning third placed Fulham could not catch up with them.

The West Midlands side now only require a single point to be crowned champions after beating Birmingham on Sunday to put the icing on their promotion.

The Club’s Chinese owners have spent heavily to ensure promotion back to the premiership, and that paid off without the need to go through play-offs.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have led the Championship table since 18 November and at one stage had looked on course to challenge the Championship record points tally of 106, set by Reading in 2005-06.

Wolves currently have 95 points with three games still to play. If they win all the remaining games, they will come short of the Reading record by only two points.

With one automatic promotion slot taken, Championship sides aiming to make the climb will be seeking to snatch the other slot, leaving four others to battle for the third and final slot via play-offs.
