Aubameyang’s penalty miss puts Gunner’s top four hopes under threat

Arsenal’s Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a penalty late on in his side’s game against local rivals Tottenham Hotspurs, plunging the Gunner’s hopes for a top four finish into uncertainty.
Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring against the run of play in the 16th minute, with Harry Kane netting from the spot in the 74th after Shkodran Mustafi was adjudged to have fouled him in the 18-yard box.
Aubameyang was given a similar chance in stoppage time, but he saw his weak shot saved by Hugo Lloris to ensure a share of spoils.
Arsenal needed to win the game to keep their top four hopes alive, but will now be hoping others in the race slip up.
A win for the Gunners would have reduced the gap between themselves and Spurs to just one point, with nine games to go.
Should Manchester United beat Southampton, the Gunners will be pushed into fifth place. Things would get worse should Chelsea win against Fulham on Sunday by a huge goal tally.
Liverpool currently lead the League with 69 points, one more than defending champions Manchester City.
The Reds are chasing a first Premier League title since 1990, one that will take their tally of PL trophies to 19.
