Cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union in the maintenance of peace and security has greatly intensified in recent years, and newly appointed United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres presence at the 28th African Union goes to show.
“Africa remains passionate about addressing historical injustice of being the only continent without a @UN Security Council Permanent seat.” Said H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission
The UN General Assembly established the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) in 2005 to enhance the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union in the area of peace and security, provide coordinated and consistent United Nations advice to the African Union
Africa & the @UN must continue working closely on issues of peace & security, focusing on #Africa'a goal of silencing the guns by 2020.
