The African Union has urged all parties in Sudan to agree in earnest on a civilian-led and consensual transition that would pave the way for the holding of free, fair and transparent elections.
The AU issued a statement as the chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, ended a two-day working visit to Khartoum on Sunday.
Mahamat wants all stakeholders to continue being more responsible and to place the interests of Sudan above any other consideration.
On April 15 the AU’s Peace and Security Council issued a communiqué threatening to suspend Sudan within 15 days unless the Transitional Military Council handed over power to a civilian-led authority.
The military has been ruling Sudan since April 11 when Omar al-Bashir was ousted from office following months of civilian protests.
