AU launches center for monitoring public health threats
The African Union has launched the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The AU has been working to put together a coordinated continental response for any public threats since the outbreak of the Ebola virus. An emergency operations center has been set up in Addis Ababa and highly qualified epidemiologists are ready to monitor any public threats. The CDC has five regional branch offices across Africa.
The AU recognized the need in 2013 and formalized it in 2015.
