The World Anti-Doping Agency has recommended that the Russian Athletics Federation be banned from the sport over widespread doping offences.

An independent commission set up by the World Anti-Doping Agency and released on Monday identified what it called systemic failures in the IAAF and in Russia that prevent or diminish the possibility of an effective anti-doping programme. The probe was set up after allegations were made by German broadcaster ARD in a December 2014 documentary about doping in Russia. If suspended, Russia could be banished from Olympic competition.
