A group of 60 Atheists application for official recognition has been rejected by the government of Kenya. The government stated that it will affect the ‘peace… and good order in the country’
The atheists have declared the decision to reject their application as “blatant discrimination” reports the BBC. According to Pew Research at least 97 per cent of Kenyans identify with a religion.
Head of Atheists In Kenya (AIK) Harrison Mumia has said that he will be taking the issue to court on the basis of their constitutional right to freedom of association is being violated. The organization believes that, an official recognition will allow them to participate in public affairs as well as open a bank account.
