
At least 7 killed after train derails in Morocco
The train derailed near Sidi Bouknadel, a town near Rabat, on the busy coastal line connecting the capital to the commercial hub of Casablanca.
The train was plying the route between Rabat and the city of Kenitra when it derailed, causing its carriages to overturn on the side of the track.
Local media report the incident to have been confirmed by the head of the kingdom’s national railway company, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, who said: “The derailment has killed six people according to the latest count and left 86 injured in serious condition.
“An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the accident.”
The cause of the accident had not yet been ascertained at the time of publication of this article.
