At least 36 Zambian students stranded in India
Local media in Zambia is reporting that at least thirty six students are stranded in various parts of India for various reasons.
In a statement by the Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga available to the Lusaka Times, most of the stranded students are in that state because of their parents failure to sustain payment of school fees, while some have committed offences such as drug abuse and a number have failed examinations but are scared of informing their parents.
The students are unable to leave the airport since it is a requirement in India that their schools issue them with No Objection Travel Certificates which indicate that they complied with Indian laws, the statement said.
Mrs Kapijimpanga however assured that a solution would be found to facilitate the removal of all the stranded Zambian students.
The High Commissioner also urged parents to consult the Zambian mission in New Delhi on education services in India before sending their children.
