Cholera has returned to Tanzania, with at least 18 deaths confirmed in the past two months with the government warning that the number of cases could increase if more rain falls over the coming weeks.

According to the ministry, the outbreak had left “18 dead out of 570 cases recorded” between September 1 and October 30, and it urged local authorities to take measures to keep the disease from spreading.

Another major outbreak of cholera which infected some 10 000 people and left 150 dead attacked the East African nation in 2015.
