Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said staying at the North London club for nearly 22 years may have been the biggest mistake of his career, and that he regrets sacrificing “everything” for the job.
The 68-year-old Frenchman left the club at the end of last season, having been in charge since 1996.
In an interview with French outlet RTL, Wenger said he will make a decision on his future “in the next few months”.
When asked what he thought was the biggest mistake of his career, Wenger said: “Perhaps staying at the same club for 22 years.
“I’m someone who likes new things, likes change. But I also like challenges. I was a little bit of a prisoner to my challenge each time.”
In Wenger’s 22 years reign at Arsenal, the Gunners won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including the Double in 1998 and 2002.
The North Londoners have however not lifted the Premier League Trophy since 2004, a fact that sparked fan rage towards Wenger in his final years in charge.
Following the Frenchman’s departure, Arsenal appointed former PSG manager Unai Emery to take over as manager.
