Arsenal defender David Luiz is expected in Rwanda for a two-day visit as part of the country’s partnership with the English club.
During his stay in the East African country, the 32-year-old will meet young Rwandan football players, and will also visit some tourist sites.
“I have heard wonderful things about the breath-taking beauty of Rwanda and its people, and I can’t wait to experience the country and all it has to offer. Football has the amazing power to bring communities together and drive social change, and the Arsenal shirt has a unique ability to reach fans all over the world,” local New Times newspapers quotes Luiz ahead of the visit.
“I am very proud to represent Arsenal to help tell a global audience of Rwanda’s modernisation into a luxury tourism destination, its amazing culture and its enthusiasm for football development,” he added.
Rwanda signed the£30m three-year sponsorship and tourism promotion deal with Arsenal in May 2018, hoping to attract more tourists to the country.
Under the deal, the “Visit Rwanda” logo is emblazoned on the left sleeve on all first team, Under-23 and Arsenal Women’s shirts.
The East African country offers various tourist attractions, including lakeside resorts and walks with mountain gorillas.
David Luis is expected to be accompanied by his fiancée and mother.
