Another selfie fatality – Man killed by animal he was taking selfies with

A tourist was killed by a giant walrus while taking selfies in Yeshamko Wild Zoo located in the Chinese city of Weihai, and a zookeeper also died in a failed attempt to rescue him.

The man named Jia was grabbed by the sea animal from behind as he was taking pictures with it, dragging him into the water where it held him, causing him to drown to death.

A zookeeper then jumped into the water to try and save the tourist but the walrus grabbed him too and held him under water where he also drowned to death.

Jia is said to have been in the city for an engineering project.

During a break from work, he decided to visit the local zoo. He took many selfies with various animals, posting them on social media.

Evethough selfies are not listed as official causes of death, the craze for the pictures have seen 49 people killed.

In April, a 19-year-old in the southern Chinese city of Foshan, Guangdong Province, was killed by an oncoming train as she posed to take a selfie. In Jan. 2015, a pair of Russian soldiers died while taking a selfie together posing with a live hand-grenade. The weapon unexpectedly exploded, killing both of them. But the phone survived to tell their tale.
