AMISOM Commander commends troops efforts in securing country
The purpose of the AMISOM force commander’s visit to Somalia was to get a first-hand account of the situation on the ground in Sector 4 which includes areas like Dhobley, Afmadhow and Beletweyne. During his tour Lit general Jonathan Rono was briefed by the military leadership on key achievements in the sector, challenges and future plans, regarding security. Rono urged the troops to remain steadfast in finding a lasting solution to peace in the strife torn nation.
“The kind of peace that we are realizing in Somalia, would not have been there without your effort and we acknowledge, and we want to do the remaining bit so that Somalia is fully in peace,” said Lt. General Jonathan Rono
AMISOM troops in Sector 4 are charged with ensuring the security of the Hiiran and Galgadud regions it is the AMISOM troops from Djibouti and Ethiopia deployed in the sector. While AMISOM has helped liberate huge numerous towns and regions from the Alshaabab, the group still remains a threat and has in recent times seemed to up the ante, mounting several attacks against AMISOM military camps. AMISOM is now seeking fresh vigour against the group.
The troops stationed at Beletweyne recently liberated the towns of several towns including Masaas, Ceel buur, Maqakoor, and several villages. As a result, new administrative posts have now been established in Ceel buur, Muqakoor and Halgen.
