The US has warned its Citizens not to travel to 20 states in Nigeria due increased insecurity citing limited resources to provide assistance according to reports AFP.

The US pointed out the northeast Nigeria states are insecure because of terrorists, therefore they “avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states because the security situation in northeast Nigeria remains fluid and unpredictable.”The other 17 states have high risks of kidnapping, robberies and other armed attacks. The embassy also warned of being around government security facilities, churches, mosques, hotels, bars, restaurants, markets, shopping malls and other areas frequented by foreigners.

Nigeria has a total of 36 states and is battling a seven-year Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast and oil rebels in the Niger delta have also since February attacked oil pipelines and facilities.

“Security measures in Nigeria remain heightened due to threats posed by extremist groups and US citizens may encounter police and military checkpoints, additional security and possible road blocks throughout the country,” said the US
