Algerian promises to pay fines charged to any Muslim woman for wearing the burkini in France

An Algerian businessman has pledged to pay for the fines that have been imposed on Muslim women caught wearing burkinis in France’s beaches. The wealthy businessman, Rachid Nekkaz has already paid out three fines of €38 (£33) each after the plush Riviera resort of Cannes said it would fine any woman who turned up on its beaches wearing the full-body swimwear reports the Telegraph.
The mayor of Cannes established a ban on swimming at the city’s beaches in burkini. The town of Cannes ban was confirmed by the courts on 13 August. The towns of Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, and Sisco in Corsica also followed suit according to BBC.
The real-estate entrepreneur says that he personally opposed the burkini and niqab but believes that nobody should prevent another from wearing their clothing of choice in a democracy, ‘provided that this clothing is not threat to freedom of others or the security of the territory.”
“As soon as I see that France is not respecting fundamental liberties, I always get my cheque book out,” he said, in an interview with the Telegraph.
Coined the ‘Zorro of niqab’, the 44-year-old businessman set up a fund in 2010 when France and other European countries introduced bans on burqa. He has since paid out €245,000 in fines and associated legal fees, and has picked up the tab for 1,165 women in France, 268 in Belgium, two in the Netherlands, and one in Switzerland according to the Telegraph
