Algeria’s minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Tahar Hadjar said Sunday in Algiers that Algeria and the United States are currently working to renew the cooperation agreement on science and technology, notably for scholarships.

Hajar said, after the meeting he had with the US Secretary Antony Blinken that the meeting focused on the bilateral cooperation fields, notably teaching and technologies.

A “bilateral working group is working to renew the agreement on scientific and technological cooperation,” which has just expired.

The agreement covers a number of points including the exchange of scholarships and students, the minister added, underlining the efforts made to solve some issues like “high prices (up to $ 60,000 per year) for Algerian students wishing to study in this country.”

The two parties broached the promotion of English language training, as Algeria “has lack in English teachers in university and secondary levels”.
