Al-Shabaab says executed captured Ugandan soldier
Somalia-based Islamist group al-Shabaab has released a video that appears to show the killing of a Ugandan soldier who was captured in 2015 during an attack on an African Union peacekeepers base.
The footage that was released on Tuesday shows the soldier, reportedly called Masassa M.Y.,sitting handcuffed with someone holding a gun to the back of his head.
It then appears to show the gunman shooting the soldier, who then falls backwards onto the ground.
The video says the soldier was captured during the attack in Janele town.
The Islamists terror group claimed to have killed more than 50 Ugandan troops in the attack, although Ugandan officials reported that the death toll was 19.
It is not clear how many soldiers might still be held captive from the Janale attack. The extremist group killed one in November 2015.
