Al-Shabaab retakes Halgan town as AMISOM troops withdraw

It’s been confirmed that Somali militant group al-Shabaab has taken over Halgan town in Hiiraan, central Somalia.

Residents are reportedly fleeing their homes. The sudden pull-out by AMISOM troops and the subsequent al-Shabaab takeover has raised security concerns in the country, which is currently conducting crucial elections.
