Music superstar Akon is in Liberia to endorse the country’s plan to outsource the oversight of its primary education system to an American company.

The 43-year-old’s tour is part of his initiative to use solar energy to bring electricity to millions of households in Africa.

His visit comes six months after Liberia unveiled plans to allow Bridge International Academies to write curriculums and train teachers.

The singer also took time to praise the education system in Africa, though he acknowledged that better facilities are needed to make learning more comfortable for children.

“Everyone here can’t be shipped on to the U.S. or to Europe for education. The education in Africa, believe it or not, is ten times better. The only thing we need is proper facilities for our children to learn in and a comfortable environment for them to be able to teach”, he said.
