A new report released by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa or AGRA shows that the continent may need as much as 400 billion dollars of investment in food production over the next decade.
The report also reveals that 10 years on, African countries that embraced agriculture have seen food production, GDP and nutrition improve. AGRA President Agnes Kalibata has warned that the food-import deficit in Africa is currently 35 billion dollars annually and could grow to 110 billion in the next decade.
The report has been released on the sidelines of the 2016 African Green Revolution Forum, currently under way in Nairobi.
The Rockefeller Foundation, which co-founded the organisation in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is celebrating the 10-year journey transforming agriculture on the continent.
