Festus Mogae was very clear in his briefing to the AU. The former president of Botswana is now head of the ceasefire monitors in South Sudan.

And he’s told the AU the peace process is not movingand that the AU must take more robust action. South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir wasn’t at the AU summit but his delegates seem to have succeeded in their lobbying.

In its resolutions, the AU leadership merely called for more talks in South Sudan, shying away from any punitive action against those who are on obstacle to peace.

This month it will be six months since the two sides signed their peace deal. As of Tuesday though, there’s no obvious sign of the formation of a unity government
nor of an end to the fighting.
