African Union will be sending a permanent ambassador to China, a decision that is part of its MOU signed in 2014. A partnership that will speed up Africa’s economic growth .

The African Union has yet to reveal who will go to Beijing. But their mission is clear enough to represent Africa’s interests at the heart of the world’s second biggest economy and Africa’s biggest trading partner.

Relations between the AU and China have strengthened markedly.

AU Commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has met China’s president Xi Jinping twice in recent weeks.

China has thrown its support behind the AU’s development plan Agenda 2063. A representative for the AU says the partnership will speed Africa’s economic growth.

The decision to send a permanent ambassador is part of the Memorandum of Understanding the AU signed with China earlier this year.  Following that, China opened a permanent mission to the AU in Addis Ababa, led by veteran diplomat Kuang Weilin. Now it’s the AU’s turn.
