African Union calls for Gambian President Yahya Jammeh to handover power to the new President-Elect
“If we fail the people of The Gambia, we will be failing Africa. We’ve come a long way. Democracy in Africa is thriving” says Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission
The Gambia voted, the president-elect was voted & he should be installed when the time comes. The will of the people must be respected, added Dr. Zuma
We don't need long discussions on this matter. The #AUPSC must be unambiguous & unequivocal in its message to resolve this issue.

Dr.Zuma further explained that the African Union is working with Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Leaders and the stakeholders of The Gambia to ensure a smooth transition of authority on 19 Jan 2017.
“It is unfortunate that we are starting 2017 with problems in #Gambia. If not properly resolved, Gambia will set bad example” said Dr.Dlamini Zuma during an African Union’s Peace and Security Council briefing
Gambia’s President Jammeh’s tenure expires on January 19 and President-elect Adama Barrow of the opposition coalition is expected to be sworn in the following day.
