
African leaders head to Ghana for new President’s inauguration
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu are expected to land in Ghana’s capital Accra for the inauguration ceremony of newly elected President Nana Akufu Addo as the President of Ghana scheduled to take place tomorrow.
The two leaders are among 11 heads of state across Africa that are expected to attend the inauguration of the seventh head of state of Ghana. Presidents of Togo, Gabon, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Zambia, Benin, Nigeria and Guinea are expected to attend.
Over 6,000 guests are expected at the ceremony that is set to be conducted at the Black Stars Stadium.
The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Haile Mariam Dessalegn is already in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alhassan Outtarra is a special guest of honour according to a report by My joy Online.
Zimbabwe’s opposition leader of Morgan Tsvangari and his deputy Nelson have been invited to the inauguration, will leave Saturday morning for the event, according to Zimbabwe’s Daily News.
Ghana’s incumbent government will be handing over power to an opposition party, an applauding milestone in the country’s democracy. Ghana’s current President John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress Party will hand over power to Nana Akufo-Addo Addo of the New Patriotic Party after losing the December 7 general elections.
