Defence Ministers from African nations will attend a meeting later this week in Egypt, with the Brussels attack likely to be high on the agenda.
Representatives from across the Sahel and Sahara regions are to gather in Egypt’s tourist resort Sharm El Sheikh to draw up plans to better combat the threat of terrorism.
The preparatory meetings were attended by experts from 27 member states. In their closed meetings, they finalized the draft plan for the Ministers of Defence, who will convene on Thursday and Friday.
Topping the agenda are efforts to combat terrorism. The growing strength of ISIL , AQIM and Boko Haram is a cause of concern for the continent.
Terrorism has become a global threat. Militants can easily travel from one region to another and cause havoc. That is why 5 countries from Europe are in Sharm El Sheikh as observers.
Countries have been urged to coordinate between each other and meet through several mechanisms whether bilateral or multi-lateral within organisations and international conferences. They are also urged to take suitable measures and to follow up on these measures to ensure they are implemented.
