#AfricaFirstLadiesAccomplishments: Meet Ghana’s First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama
The sitting First Ladies of Africa are commended as champions of transformation and change in their respective countries where they have initiated programs that touch the common man.
Dr. Nana Lordina is Ghana’s first lady. She is greatly known for her love and strident passion for the welfare of children, and everything that goes into making ad keeping children happy.
Dr. Nana is the patron of the Lordina Foundation which oversees several programs at the grassroots dealing with maternal health and child survivor, education of girls and empowerment among other programs.
Lordina Foundation was launched in 2009 with a focus on its primary objective which is to cater for destitute and vulnerable children and women (especially young women) so as to bridge the gap between the fortunate and the unfortunate, particularly in areas of education, healthcare and vocational training
According to the Ghana Health Service, there are about 1.2 million orphans in Ghana with about 4,500 of these in orphanages.
Born on March 6, 1963, and is currently a mother to five children. Four sons born by her and an adopted girl.
She is the first to admit that wearing the hats of First Lady, president of an NGO, ad being a mother for all Ghanaian could be daunting. However, she manages to keep strict discipline that enables her to fulfill all the roles as best as she can.
She is the current President of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA).
