AFCON: Defending champions Cote d’Ivoire must win tonight to avoid elimination
Africa Cup of Nations defending champions Cote d’Ivoire play their last Group match tonight against Morocco in a must-win game for both sides if they are to progress into the quarter-finals.
The Ivorians lie third behind the Democratic Republic of Congo and Morocco, after drawing their two games so far.
DR Congo tops the group with four points, and will be searching for just a draw against Togo to progress.
Togo are last in the group’s standings with just a point, but can also progress if they upset DR Congo in tonight’s game.
The star-studded Ivorian team was expected to dominate the group and easily progress into the quarter finals, but have so far failed to record a win in Gabon.
Only a win for The Elephants will see them reach the next stage, and as such will be looking for a perfect performance against the North Africans.
Morocco on the other hand will be seeking a draw to progress.
Other AFCON favourites Algeria were bundled out of the tournament yesterday after drawing their final group game against Senegal.
The Desert Foxes failed to win a single game in Gabon, disappointing many fans who had foreseen them going much further in the competition.
