AFCON 2017: Cameroon have ability to win title – Roger Miller says
Cameroonian football legend Roger Miller says The Indomitable Lions have what it takes to lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Gabon on Sunday.
In an interview with CGTN Africa, the 64-year-old said Cameroon have a squad with a strong mentality and the skills needed to win the coveted trophy.
The Cameroonians will play Ghana in the tournament’s second semi-final game, and should they win, will face the winner of the other game between Egypt and Burkina Faso.
Coming into the continental showpiece, The Indomitable Lions were hurt by refusals by some players to play in the Gabon showpiece.
Europe-based players like Liverpool’s Joel Matip and West Bromwich Albion’s Allan Nyom refused call ups to represent their country in the tournament, making most people write the Indomitable Lions out of the title race.
Other players who refused to join the team were Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), Guy Roland Ndy Assembe (Nancy), Maxime Poundje (Girondins Bordeaux), Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Olympique Marseille) and Ibrahim Amadou (Lille).
Having finished second in their Group, the Indomitable Lions faced tournament favourites Senegal, and were expected to crash out. They however eliminated the Teranga Lions boasting of Liverpool’s star forward Sadio Mane.
The Cameroonians will play Ghana on Thursday.
