The African Union has joined the rest of the world in tackling the spread of the novel coronavirus pneumonia.

Ahead of the 33 African Union Heads of State and Government Summit in Addis Ababa, the continental bloc has teamed up with the Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) to screen guests arriving at the AU Conference Centre.

The Director of the Africa CDC John Nkengasong says the move will help cushion the continent from the deadly virus.

“This particular outbreak doesn’t respect border as we have seen in china , it is  a fast moving virus. It is evolving very quickly because the issue of border doesn’t arise here , because an outbreak in Kenya will quickly become an outbreak in Ethiopia and vice verso so that issue we r collaborating with our regional collaboration centers members states in each regions that there is a common understanding of what this virus is about,” said Nkengasong.
