Confirmed COVID-19 cases have surpassed 40 million globally, with over 1.1 million fatalities and more than 27.4 million recovered patients, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

The Chinese mainland reported 13 new cases from overseas on Sunday. China’s economy expanded by 4.9 percent year on year in the third quarter of 2020, stepping up its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The U.S. has registered over 219,000 deaths and more than 8.1 million infections – both the highest in the world. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday said she’s optimistic on a coronavirus relief deal before the presidential election on November 3.
Italy’s daily COVID-19 cases hit a record high as the government reported 11,705 new cases on Sunday. New measures, including mandatory mask wearing in public and restrictions on public gatherings and restaurants were ordered. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is due to announce further measures later on Sunday.
India’s caseload continues to surge with more than 50,000 new infections each day. The world’s second-most populous country has become a major hot-spot for the pandemic, rivaling the United States for the unenviable record of being the country with the most confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on earth.
However, India recorded its lowest death toll in nearly four months on Monday, with 579 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, taking total fatalities to 114,610.
