The Mozambican government had launched a website to disseminate information and share good practices to support the municipalities in structuring and implementing their plans to combat COVID-19, said a statement by the country’s Information Office on Sunday.

The website, named COVID Cities, was launched due to the cities’ role in the COVID-19 situation in the country and the fact that some of the major cities such as Maputo, Nampula and Pemba have already registered community transmission, according to the statement.

“The website has clear information for the creation of municipal action plans to fight COVID-19, including necessary goals, priority actions and operational needs for the projects. It also has weekly updated news stories about the best practices to tackle COVID-19 in the country,” reads the statement.

The statement said the website also provides risk maps to help identify the major contamination areas in the country’s major cities, and prioritizes combat actions against the pandemic.

The website was created with the support of the World Bank and Mozambican government through the Local Urban Development Project.
