Tunisian National Guard killed, another injured in ‘terrorist attack’ in Sousse
One National Guard was killed and another one was injured in a knife attack which took place in the coastal city of Sousse in Tunisia on Sunday.
National Guard spokesman Houcem Eddine Jebabli, who spoke to AFP, said: “One died as a martyr and the other was wounded and is hospitalized.”
Three terrorists were also killed in the incident.
Jebali said the incident was “a terrorist attack.”
Tunisian authorities have battled against militant groups which operate in remote areas near the border with Algeria since the 2011 uprising which ousted the government of Zine Abidine Ben Ali.
In March, a police officer was killed and several other people were injured after two militants blew themselves up outside the U.S. Embassy in Tunis.
Last year in July, one police officer was killed and several other people were injured after two suicide bombers blew themselves up in separate attacks on police in Tunis.
In 2015, a jihadist gunman opened fire killing 38 people, majority of them British people, at a seaside resort in Sousse just three months after 22 people were killed in an attack at the Bardo National Museum in Tunis.
