Kaizer Chiefs failed to capitalize on their rivals dropping points in the title race as they conceded a late equalizer to draw 1-1 against Bidvest Wits at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

This was the second game of the Absa Premiership since the league resumed on Tuesday.

After having the better of the first period, Serbian forward Samir Nurkovic gave the league leaders the lead nine minutes before halftime.

Wits returned from the break stronger and bossed more possession and registered more attempts on goal. Their efforts finally yielded fruit late in the game when Cole Alexander popped up with the equalizer in the 89th minute.

The draw meant Kaizer Chiefs only restored their four-point advantage over Mamelodi Sundowns who played out a goalless draw with Orlando Pirates on Tuesday at the Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg.

Kaizer Chiefs leads the way with 49 points from 23 games, followed by Sundowns on 45 points with a game in hand and Orlando Pirates on 40 points after 24 games. Wits remain fifth on 39 points, one behind fourth-placed Supersport United.
