The recent torrential rains across Sudan have left 21 killed and 16 others injured, the Sudanese authorities said Monday.

The rainy season this year has caused the collapse of 4,726 houses and partial collapse of 4,628 others, according to a daily report by the Sudanese National Council for Civil Defense.

The most affected areas include the East Nile area in Khartoum State as well as the states of Gadaref, Kassala, Kordofan and Nahr Al Neel, the Council noted.

It urged citizens living near the Nile or on water courses to adopt necessary measures against the rainy season.

Sudan often witnesses floods caused by heavy rains from June to October.
