Tunisia added its name to the list of countries which resumed its football league after suspension earlier in the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In one of the games on Saturday Esperance Tunis recovered from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Slimane 2-1 at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Radès.

Goals from Hamdou Elhouni and Taha Khenissi cancelled out Anane Tidjani’s opening strike. The result saw Esperance open up a 12-point lead over CS Sfaxien who drew 1-1 with US Tataouine. It also extended Esperance’s unbeaten run in the league to 17 matches (15 wins and two draws).

All four goals were scored in the final half an hour of the second half in Etoile du Sahel’s 3-1 win away to JS Kairouan.

In other games, Bizertin and Ben Guerdane settled for a goalless draw as did 10-man Monsatir and Club Africain. Elsewhere, Metlaoui and Chebba recorded 2-1 and 3-0 victories over Stade Tunisien and Hammam-Lif respectively.

JS Kairouan and Bizertin prop up the table in 13th and 14th place respectively with both teams having 12 points.

Following the 17th round of matches, Esperance leads the Ligue Professionnelle 1 table with 47 points followed by CS SFaxien on 35 points and Monastir on 32 points while Etoile du Sahel is a further three points behind.

Saturday also saw the resumption of Djibouti’s top-tier league, Division 1 with two games on the cards.

League leaders SID edged ASAS 2-1 in a top-of-the-table clash to go three points clear of their opponents. SID’s win also ended the four-game winning streak the visitors had put together before the suspension of the league.

In the other game, AS Arta scored once in each half to secure a 2-0 win against EAD and climb up to fourth place in the league.

SID leads the table with 28 points from 13 games, followed by ASAS and Port who are both tied on 25 points.

On the same day, the First Division League in Seychelles also continued with two games being played. The league had resumed last month after suspension.

Second-placed Foresters FC lost 4-2 at home to La Passe while fifth-placed Cote d’Or thrashed Revengers 5-0 away from home.
