Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth extends stay at Toulon until 2024
South African Rugby World Cup winning lock Eben Etzebeth signed a new three-year deal with Toulon, keeping him at the French Top 14 side until 2024.
Etzebeth had joined the French club from the DHL Stormers on a two-year contract in 2019 about a year after club president Mourad Boudjellal had announced that an agreement had been finalized.
The 28-year-old said his objectives at the club were to qualify for the European Rugby Champions Cup, and winning the Top 14 and the European Challenge Cup.
Etzebeth, who has won 85 caps for the Springboks, managed to make eight appearances for the three-time European champions before the season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rugby World Cup winner previously said that he had the chance to join Toulon after the 2015 Rugby World Cup but chose not as he was not yet primed to do so and had unfinished business in South Africa.
