Aubameyang on target as Arsenal draw at home to Leicester
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target for the Gunners who drew 1-1 against Leicester City at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Though Leicester dominated possession in the first half, it was Arsenal who created more chances in the opening period. Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel produced a number of saves to keep them in the game.
Arsenal went ahead through Aubameyang, who met Bukayo Saka’s low cross and tapped the ball into the net at the far post from close range, in the 21st minute.
That was Aubameyang’s 20th league goal of the season and his third in the last three games.
However, Leicester returned from the break with greater purpose and received a boost when substitute Eddie Nketiah was sent off in the 75th minute for a bad challenge on James Justin.
Leicester capitalised on their man advantage and equalized through Jamie Vardy six minutes before time with the goal standing after a long consultation with VAR.
Vardy’s strike restored the two-goal gap between him and Aubameyang in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.
The result ended Arsenal’s four-game winning streak in all competitions and dented their slim hopes of securing a Champions League spot while Leicester’s battle to hold on to one of those spots also took a hit, even though the point was a crucial one.
Arsenal remains seventh on 48 points while Leicester dropped to fourth with 59 points.
