The Isuzu Southern Kings signed scrumhalf Cameron Wright on a two-year contract from Super Rugby side the Cell C Sharks.
A statement on the franchise’s website said that Wright will officially join the side on September 1.
Kings backline coach Vuyo Zangqa said that they had been looking for a quality scrumhalf and, as a result, they were very excited to secure Wright’s services.
“What we have been looking for is an experienced halfback after having only had Stefan Ungerer in the 2019/20 season as the only experienced No.9 available to us. Stefan has made a great contribution, and now having someone with good experience behind them, like Cameron, also adding to our pool will take us to a higher level,” Zangqa said.
Zangqa added that Wright will bring experience and quality skills like kicking and footwork to the Guinness PRO14 side.
“We needed to have at least two quality scrumhalves whom the younger players like Josh Allderman and Gavin Mills will get to learn so much from, and they can take the baton from them.”
In addition to the Sharks, the 26-year-old has also played for French Top 14 club, Montpellier, between 2015 and 2017.
Meanwhile, the Vodacom Bulls completed the signing of lock Jan Uys from French Top 14 club CA Brive.
Uys is the latest addition to the three-time Super Rugby champions who are undergoing an overhaul under Director of Rugby Jake White.
The 26-year-old has represented South African sides DHL Western Province and Eastern Province Kings and another French side Pau before moving on to CA Brive.
Uys has built a reputation as a strong ball carrier and exceptional ball handling ability, qualities the Bulls are excited to add to their squad.
“The Bulls Family can expect hard hits and tons of grunt in the tight phases from Uys, with his inclusion set to bolster the Vodacom Bulls lock stocks as Director of Rugby, Jake White, adds more firepower to a squad bursting in talent,” the Bulls said in a statement.
