Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that there will be hell to pay for those who have impregnated minors in the country, a local publication has reported.

This follows after a survey by the Kenya Health Information System revealed that about 4,000 girls  aged below 19 years were reported pregnant in Machakos County between the last five months.

The president was speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi, on Thursday at the close of a two-day training workshop for Regional and County Commissioners.

He said that area chiefs would be answerable on how young girls were defiled under their watch.

The president also warned that those responsible for impregnating minors would face the full wrath of the law once DNA results were out.

A report recently released by National Council on Population and Development (NCPD) showed that two out of five teenagers in the country are either young mothers or are pregnant.

Since the pandemic hit, 20,828 girls aged between 10 and 14 years have become mothers while the older girls aged between 15-19 years, 24,106 are either pregnant or mothers already, the same report revealed.
