May 25th marked another dark day in America’s history of race relations and police brutality. George Floyd, an unarmed black male died in police custody in Minneapolis. The resulting outrage has sparked protests across America, and in cities around the world.

In the last few decades there have been a number of similar wrongful death cases which have caused protests and riots in cities across America. This time though, rallies have been held around the world, uniting people in a single cause; ending racism and police brutality.

Why has the death of George Floyd ignited such a passionate response globally? And do cases of police brutality appear to occur more frequently in America than around the world?
