Egypt records 1,497 new COVID-19 infections

Egypt on Saturday registered 1,497 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 32,612, the health ministry said.

The ministry also announced that 32 more patients had succumbed to the disease bringing the death toll to 1,198.

According to the health ministry spokesperson Khaled Megahed, 380 patients were discharged from hospital after fully recovering from the virus. This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 8,538.

The latest numbers count at the 10th consecutive day for Egypt’s COVID-19 daily infections to exceed 1,000.

Egypt announced its first confirmed COVID-19 case on Feb. 14 and the first death from the highly infectious virus on March 8.
