Uganda reports 40 new COVID-19 cases as tally rises to 457

Uganda on Monday reported 40 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 457, a ministry of health statement said.

According to the statement, out of the 1,319 samples collected from cross-border cargo truck drivers and communities on Sunday, 23 Ugandan truck drivers and 17 contacts and alert cases tested positive for the virus.

Additionally, 31 foreign truck drivers including 11 Tanzanians, 19 Kenyans and Eritrean tested positive for COVID-19 and were handed over to their respective countries of origin, said the statement.

Out of the 457 COVID-19 cases, 72 have recovered and no one has died of the respiratory disease in the country, according to the ministry of health.
