The COVID-19 death toll outside China has surpassed 1,000 after more loses of lives were reported on Tuesday.
Italy recorded an increase of 168 in a single day, taking its death toll to 631 by 17GMT Tuesday, 10 March 2020.
The pneumonia outbreak was first reported in the city of Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province, in December 2019. Experts have attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China and abroad.
In response to the growing figures in Italy, the government expanded a lockdown to the entire country, with all public gatherings cancelled. It is the worst-hit country outside of China, with over 10,000 cases.
The situation in Italy has prompted several countries and airlines to suspend flight to and from the country.
