The International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Monday named South Africa as the hosts of the 2021 Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup.

This marks the first time that the event will be held in Africa with the games set to be played in Potchefstroom in South Africa’s North West Province. While the dates are yet to be confirmed, the FIH said that the event will be held towards the end of the year.

The women’s event will have two teams from Africa (including hosts South Africa), three from Asia, six from Europe and two each from the Oceania and Pan America regions.

The continental qualifiers for Africa are scheduled to be held in June this year.

The FIH said that India will stage the men’s edition late next year, while the venue and dates will soon be announced.
