Some Nigerian businesses affected by coronavirus outbreak

The novel coronavirus outbreak has not only affected China, but also other countries around the world.

In Nigeria, businesses are starting to feel the effects of the outbreak, with much needed imports from China dwindling.

China is one of Nigeria’s biggest trading partners and accounts for the bulk of the West African country’s imports. Trade volume between both countries in 2019 alone hit an estimated $15.3 billion.

Analysts say it’s a no brainer that the Coronavirus outbreak in China would economic consequence here but the question is to what degree.

Local businesses have expressed worry that the virus may disrupt the sector if a solution is not found soon. While some may still have stock, there are fears that there will be no means to acquire more from China in the future.

But most Nigerians are confident in China’s ability to tackle the spread of the virus.

China has already taken tough measured to curb the spread of the virus and stop new infections. A new hospital built specifically to attend to coronavirus patients began operating on Monday, offering renewed hope that the virus will be defeated in due course.

In the meantime, businesses in China continue to stay alert.
