
Kenya’s second President Daniel Moi dies at 95

Kenya’s second president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, 95 is dead.
The proclamation announcing his death was issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta who has also sent condolences to the family.
He passed on Tuesday morning at 5.20 am at Nairobi Hospital and through a Presidential declaration statement, President Kenyatta noted that:
“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a Great African Statesman, H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the Second President of the Republic of Kenya. His Excellency the Former President passed on at the Nairobi Hospital in the presence of his family,” Uhuru said.
There was no immediate information on the cause of Moi’s death but he had been in and out of the hospital with breathing problems in recent months.
The former president will be accorded a State Funeral with all appropriate Civilian and Full Military Honours being rendered and observed.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also ordered that the nation will observe national mourning and the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the state and other facilities of the Republic of Kenya abroad from the dawn of February 4, 2020, until sunset on the day of Moi’s burial
Moi came to power in 1978, upon the death of President Jomo Kenyatta, having been vice-president until then.
